Sherlock – ‘A Scandal in Belgravia’ or The Fall of Irene Adler

In making Irene textually gay but providing a plot that hinges on her sexual attraction to Sherlock, Moffat is only playing at being progressive.

In a nutshell! And many of the responses to it seem to underline that it’s who does it rather than what ‘it’ is that defines the reaction, just as ‘liberals’ found themselves applauding Charlie Brooker’s portrayal of a stupid, greedy and prurient populace straight out of the Daily Mail’s wet dreams.
